A local BJP leader, Dayashankar Gupta, was allegedly shot dead last night by three cyclists in the Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh. A party colleague, Viresh Tomar, and his two uncles, Narendra Tomar and Devendra Tomar, have been taken into police custody in the murder case after Dayashankar Gupta’s family named them suspects and alleged political feud.

Dayashankar Gupta, who was Mandal’s vice president, was leaving after closing his store last night when he was attacked in a local market. He was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Viresh Tomar had recently joined the BJP, locals said.

“He recently had a heated exchange with Dayashankar on Facebook. Viresh Tomar’s uncle had earlier contested the election of the pradhan of Ratigarhi village in Firozabad against Dayashanker. Dayashanker had lost and Narendra Tomar had won the election,” said the police officer To Satish Ganesh.
