NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United) and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) will fight together in the Bihar elections under the leadership of Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the National Secretary General of the BJP in charge of Bihar Bhupender Yadav. on Wednesday.
“The central leadership has appointed representatives to hold talks with the allies. We will complete this process tomorrow,” Yadav said after a party meeting.
This comes amid reports of confusion in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) about the allocation of seats in the state.
Earlier yesterday, LJP National Secretary General Shahnawaz Ahmad Kaifi had said that party chief Chirag Paswan should be the main ministerial candidate in Bihar’s next assembly elections and that the party should fight for 143 seats.
Kaifi, however, said that he has informed Chirag Paswan of the demands raised by the workers and party members.
“Chirag Paswan is definitely the chief minister candidate of our party, there is no doubt about it. The leaders, the workers of our party are of the same opinion,” Kaifi told ANI in Patna.
“Party members also believe that we should fight for at least 143 seats in the elections. I would also urge the party to fight for these many seats,” he added.
Bihar has 243 seats in the assembly and elections in the state are due and expected in October-November, as the term of the current assembly will end last November of this year. The Electoral Commission has not yet taken a final call on the dates of the elections in Bihar.
The assembly elections in Bihar will take place on October 28, November 3 and 7 and the vote counting will take place on November 10.
With the RLSP and BSP deciding to fight together at the polls, it appears that a third front is emerging in the state in addition to the ruling NDA and the likely alliance of RJD, Congress, and left-wing parties.
