Lok Janshakti Party Chairman Chirag Paswan played down the recent BJP attacks on him on Sunday, stating that he was only following “coalition dharma” as an ally of Bihar’s chief minister Nitish Kumar.
“I don’t need to show my relationships with the prime minister. From the moment my father was in the hospital to his last rites, I can never forget what he (PM) has done for me, ”Paswan said in a series of Hindi tweets.
With the BJP working overtime to dispel the impression of having a tacit understanding with the LJP, Paswan claimed that Kumar has been trying to create a distance between himself and the saffron party.
He said the impetus for Kumar’s campaign has been to show a distance between him and Modi.
Paswan said the chief minister, also the president of JD (U), should be grateful to his ally for following the coalition’s dharma by giving him a “certificate” every day that he has no ties to the LJP president despite ” so much anger “against Kumar.
“I don’t want Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be in a dilemma because of me. You should follow the dharma of your coalition. He can say anything against me without any inhibition to satisfy Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, ”he said.
He added that he is committed to the Modi development mantra.
Modi is set to address a series of election rallies with Kumar and other coalition leaders in the coming days in Bihar.
The LJP’s decision to fight the Bihar ballot box independently after leaving the NDA, which includes the BJP and JD (U), has muddied the waters ahead of the next assembly elections.
Paswan has been making determined efforts to target the JD (U) by putting candidates against him, while his party is not competing for seats where the BJP is in the fray.
In recent days, the BJP accused Paswan of trying to sow confusion by insisting on his alleged proximity to his top leaders and reiterated that Kumar will become the state’s prime minister again if his alliance wins the mandate.
On the other hand, Paswan has been claiming that an alliance of the BJP and the LJP will come to power after the polls.
The Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7. The vote count will take place on November 10.
