BJP distances itself from Kangana Ranaut’s statement equating Mumbai with Pakistani-occupied Kashmir


Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ashish shelar is the latest political leader to join the debate surrounding Bollywood actor Kangana Raut’s controversial statements comparing Mumbai to Pakistani-occupied Kashmir.

Addressing the media, Shelar issued a statement removing BJP from the stand that Kangana Ranaut had taken. In a statement in Hindi, Shelar said: “The BJP does not agree with what Kangana Ranaut has said about Maharashtra and Mumbai.” The statement, the first official of the saffron party, comes after congressional leaders mocked, even accused the party of giving tacit support to Kangana Ranuat’s remarks on Twitter. Formerly BJP Leader Ram Kadam he had openly supported the position taken by Kangana.
