BJP did well in Haryana’s civic polls despite strange circumstances: CM Khattar | India News

CHANDIGARH: Haryana prime minister ML Khattar on Thursday he sought to downplay the performance of the BJP-led ruling dispensation in civic polls, saying it was satisfactory “despite strange circumstances.”
When asked if the BJP failed to meet expectations in these polls, Khattar said the party has performed satisfactorily “despite strange circumstances.”
Although he did not specify what these “strange circumstances” were, he indicated that the elections were held amid protests by farmers against the three central agricultural laws.
In the mayoral vote of Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat, the BJP managed to win in Panchkula.
Elections were also held to elect president and members of the municipal corporations, the Rewari municipal council, and the Sampla, Dharuhera and Uklana municipal committees.
Khattar said that the BJP had recorded victory in 36 municipal districts against Congress19 years.
At a press conference, Khattar also explained various initiatives taken by his government for the well-being of various sectors of society this year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
On Congress’ demand for a special assembly session to take a vote of no confidence against the state government, Khattar joked: “If we have won 36 districts and Congress 19, that too, even in strange situations, isn’t that a mandate? ? ”
“There is no need to call the Vidhan Sabha session now, it will be held on its own schedule in February or March,” he said.
When asked if the BJP will fight in next year’s Panchayat polls over the party symbol, he replied: “Normally we have never fought in polls over the party symbol, we will decide when these elections will be held.”
On the issue of farmers, he said that the Center is already in talks with them.
“We are hopeful that the problem will be resolved soon,” he said.
Explaining various initiatives for farmers, he said: “In Haryana, what we did for farmers in six years, possibly no other state would have done.”
“For example, we ensure the smooth purchase of crops, we started Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana (price difference compensation scheme) so that farmers are protected against price fluctuations.”
The state is also acquiring seven other crops, including moong, corn, sunflower and peanuts in MSP, he said.
Seeking to ensure that the MSP will continue, he said: “I have also said before that in Haryana MSP will continue and if there is any threat, Manohar Lal will leave politics.”
He said an international level fruit and vegetable mandi of Rs 7,000 crore was being established in the state.
