A BJP MP has written to his party colleague and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, to take “tough action” against officials who went ahead with the hasty cremation of a woman who was gang-raped and died after fighting. for his life in a Delhi hospital.

“Clarification should be sought from the officers who, without the family’s consent, hastily cremated their daughter at 2 am (Wednesday). If any officer is found guilty, strict measures must be taken against them,” said the BJP deputy from Delhi, Hans Raj Hans. he said in Wednesday’s letter.

The Hathras woman in Uttar Pradesh had suffered multiple fractures, paralysis and a cut to her tongue in the horrific assault that paralleled the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case.

The woman’s body was taken to her village in Hathras, about 200 km from Delhi, after midnight. As her family and the villagers suspected that the UP police wanted to complete the last rites right then and there, in the middle of the night, they insisted that this was “against their tradition”; The woman’s father pleaded with the police to allow him to take her home and incinerate her in the morning.

The four attackers, men from the upper castes of the woman’s village, are in jail. Now they will also be charged with murder.

Hans Raj Hans, who represents the reserved constituency of Northwest Delhi, said the crime has “shocked” him and the entire country, and hoped that “the culprits will learn a lesson so that a message will be sent across the country that any injustice women will not be tolerated. “

Amid growing outrage, the Hathras police claimed that the cremation was carried out with the consent of the family and that some members were present. It turned out to be an uncle, not his parents, who they called and was shown the cremation.

UP police, who are under scrutiny for alleged lapses throughout the case, have been accused of hastening the cremation in a desperate cover-up attempt.
