Srinagar:
Hours after the head of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Mehooba Mufti, spoke at her first press conference since being released from 14 months in detention, the BJP on Friday accused her of making “seditious comments.” “We will raise the national flag only once the flag of our state is back. The national flag is here only because of this flag and constitution (of Jammu and Kashmir). We are linked to the rest of the country because of this flag,” said the Ms Mufti, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, said on Friday, prompting criticism from the BJP and Congress.
Attacking the PDP Chairman for the comments, J&K BJP Chairman Ravinder Raina told reporters: “I ask Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to take note of (the) seditious comments from Mehbooba Mufti, register her for the seditious act and put her behind bars. ” .
“We will sacrifice every drop of our blood for our flag, country and homeland. Jammu and Kashmir are an integral part of our country, so only one flag can be hoisted … and that is the national flag,” he said. reported the PTI agency.
On the center’s decision last year to remove J & K’s special status last year, he said that no decision made by the government can be reversed. “I warn leaders like Mehbooba Mufti not to instigate the people of Kashmir. We will not allow anyone to disturb the peace, normalcy and brotherhood. In case something bad happens, she will have to face the consequences,” added the head of J&K. BJP.
On Friday, Ms Mufti launched an escalating attack on the center when she said her party would not “abandon the constitutional battle” to claim the special status withdrawn by the center in a contentious decision made in August last year. “A thief can be powerful, but he has to return stolen goods. They demolished the constitution … Parliament had no power to take away a special status,” he told reporters, criticizing the central government.
“Those who feel that we will leave Kashmir are wrong,” he said, adding that he will not contest any elections until Article 370 is reinstated. “I have contested elections under our own constitution. How can I contest elections when that constitution has been abolished?” , He said.
The PDP chief’s statements were also criticized by Congress. “Such statements are intolerable and unacceptable in any society,” said Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congressional Committee chief spokesman Ravinder Sharma.
In reaction to her statement, Sharma said that she was very provocative and irresponsible and that she has hurt people’s feelings.
J&K political leaders, including Ms Mufti, Farooq Abdullah and her son Omar, were detained for months as part of measures taken by the center to prevent backlash against the announcement of its decision to withdraw the special status and fork the former status in two union territories in August. 5, 2019.
Ms. Mufti was released last week, while the Abdullahs were released in March.
