Hanuman Beniwal of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, an ally of the Rajasthan National Democratic Alliance (NDA), resigned from three parliamentary committees on Saturday in support of farmers’ agitation against the Center’s agriculture-related laws, adding that the party will launch a march towards Delhi. on December 26 in support of farmers.
The route for the Delhi march has yet to be decided, but the party claimed that around two lakh people will join them in the effort.
“I am the son of a farmer and I have also supported farmers. Immediately after completing the local panchayat elections on December 12, we launched a march through Shahjahanpur and gave the Center an ultimatum. Today, the deadline has passed after which my party has decided that we will launch a march to Delhi on December 26 across the border of Shahjahanpur in which two lakhs of farmers and youth will participate. The central government is in the mood to crush the farmers’ protest. But this is the issue of farmers’ livelihood and pride and we support them, ”Beniwal said while addressing a press conference at his residence.
The deputy from Nagaur was a member of the Standing Committee on Industry, Advisory Committee, Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas and Petitions Commission.
Beniwal said that we are demanding that the government implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission so that the condition of farmers can be improved.
“The government should reverse the agricultural laws. When the bills were discussed in Parliament, positive Covid was detected. Otherwise, he would have broken the copy of the law. This is the time when the Prime Minister should listen to the farmers and receive their blessings. This protest should not be taken lightly. A saint committed suicide because of the issue ”, added the head of the RLP.
On the tough stance of the BJP amid the protests, Beniwal said that there is no peasant leader in the BJP and that is why they cannot understand the pain of farmers.
A BJP spokesperson said the RLP is supporting protesting farmers to gain political mileage. “The BJP government is dedicated to the well-being of farmers and most of them are with us. The RLP had initially supported farm laws and is now making a U-turn to gain political mileage, ”he said on condition of anonymity.
State Congress spokesman Nitin Agarwal said there is a lot of difference between what Beniwal says and what he does.
“Initially he supported the peasant law and now he is against the bills. There is a contradiction in your statements. If he really wants the benefit of farmers, like Akali Dal, he should break the alliance with the NDA, ”he said.
When asked about his initial support for the farm bills, Beniwal said he had supported the ordinance, which was not detailed. “But once I read the agricultural laws, I realized that they are totally against the interests of farmers, so I am against it,” he said.
