SUMMARY | The Birmingham stabbing incident followed a few sporadic incidents of violence, including one in the Scottish city of Glasgow on June 26, in which six people, including a police officer, were injured.

The BBC quoted its reporter Nick Clitheroe, who was at the crime scene, that the incidents had unfolded in a part of Birmingham where Gay Village meets Chinatown, which is a busy area of clubs and bars. He said the incident appears to have started as a major fight between large groups of people, but at some point knives were used to attack people.

Incident seems to be related, says mayor | West Midlands Mayor Andy Street who spoke to the BBC said the incidents “appear to be related” but the motivation is unknown. He said he expected a police press conference to be called later Sunday morning. Street said he was informed by the police chief and could confirm that there had been a “series of incidents in the Hurst Street area.” The area is calm and the public has been told to go about business, but to remain vigilant. “

Eyewitness says he saw people fighting | The BBC quoted a witness, identified as Cara, who was working in the area at the time as a club promoter and said she heard a lot of commotion around 00:30 BST when her shift ended and she was drinking with her colleagues. She said she heard a “loud bang and quite a commotion.” “I found several people fighting with fists … people from inside pubs and clubs came out and started to see what was going on.

Police cordon off central city area | The police cordon is near the area known as the Gay Village in central Birmingham, the BBC reported. Many people had sat at tables outside eating and drinking on Saturday night. Streets in the area were already closed to traffic due to coronavirus restrictions.

Incidents reported from Arcadian, Snowhill | West Midlands Police said officers are on the scene and have asked people to stay away from the area until further notice. Reports say the incident is from Arcadian and Snowhill in Birmingham.
The West Midlands Police social media manager confirmed the incident.
