Stating that the farmer’s protest against the new farm laws is now “everyone’s agitation,” BJP leader and former Union Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh joined a dharna in their support on Friday at Sampla in Jhajjar district of Haryana.
The sit-in had been organized by members of Sir Chhotu Ram Manch: Birender Singh is the grandson of Sir Chhotu Ram, the highest Jat leader in pre-independence India and the driving force behind various laws and measures to end the exploitation of farmers by moneylenders. Singh’s son, Brijendra Singh, is the BJP deputy from Hisar.
Birender Singh said he is very interested in going to the borders of Delhi, where farmers have been protesting the new laws for more than three weeks.

“I support them. This is everyone’s turmoil now. It is not limited to one sector of society. I am already in the field and I have made a decision. If I’m not on the front line, people will feel like I’m just doing politics, nothing more, ”he told The Indian Express.

“You can talk to anyone. It can be a student, a woman or a worker. Everyone is concerned about this turmoil and wants a solution. The last 5-6 days have been very cold but they are sitting (outside), ”he said.
“I am also morally obliged (to support farmers). The MSP and APMC concept was the brainchild of Chaudhary Chhotu Ram. The first time, he introduced agricultural reforms (during the British government), ”Singh said.
The 74-year-old, who is a member of the BJP national executive, is also a member of the Manch formed by his supporters in 2003. Members of Manch have been on hunger strike in support of farmers protesting before 64- statue of Foot-tall Sir Chhotu Ram – It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018.
