NEW DELHI: Gates Foundation co-chair Bill Gates wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulating him on his leadership in managing the coronavirus pandemic in India.
In a letter to PM Modi, the Microsoft co-founder appreciated the proactive steps taken by PM Modi and his government to flatten the Covid-19 rate curve in India.
Gates said measures such as adopting a national blockade, expanding targeted testing to identify critical points of isolation, quarantine, and significantly increasing health spending to strengthen the health system response and promote R&D and digital innovation were commendable.
“I am pleased that your government is fully utilizing its exceptional digital capabilities in its Covid-19 response and has launched the Aarogya Setu digital application for coronavirus tracking, contact tracking and connecting people to health services,” Gates said.
Bill Gates further stated that he was grateful to see that PM Modi sought to balance public health imperatives with the need to ensure adequate social protection for all Indians.
