Bihar Top Cop Who Cited Rhea Chakraborty's 'Aukat' Retires, May Dispute Polls

Bihar: Gupteshwar Pandey had made a controversial statement about Rhea Chakraborty.

Patna:

Bihar has a new police chief like Gupteshwar Pandey, who recently made headlines in connection with the case of the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, voluntarily retired. Pandey is believed to have decided to go into politics after getting the go-ahead from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

SK Singhal has been appointed as the new chief of police for Bihar.

Sources confirmed that his request was sent Tuesday night and that the Interior Ministry issued a formal notification.

Sources also said that Pandey is likely to be running as a candidate for the Sahpur NDA in the Buxar district.

In the news, sometimes because of his controversial statements, Pandey had never hidden his political ambitions. In 2009, he had tried to obtain a ticket from the Buxar parliamentary constituency, but failed. Later, following the intervention of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, he returned to service.

Pandey was instrumental in pushing the Bihar government forward in the Sushant Singh Rajput case after her family denounced the complicity of her friend Rhea Chakraborty. Before the state elections in Bihar, the issue had taken a profound political turn.

After the Supreme Court order allowed the transfer of the case to the IWC, the Bihar police chief had stated that Rhea Chakraborty “does not have the aukat (stature) “to comment on the chief minister, referring to her comments in the high court on the political angle.

“What the police did was correct and in accordance with legal and constitutional provisions,” he told reporters.

However, he amended the statement after public outrage, saying that what he meant was that Rhea Chakraborty, as a defendant in the case, had no right to criticize the Chief Minister.

In earlier statements to the media, Mr. Pandey had admitted that the case had turned political and said it was “unfortunate” that “charges were brought against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar”.
