Bihar poll results: Owai MIM wins 5 seats in Seemanchal, MGB dents | Bihar Assembly Elections 2020 Election News

PATNA: Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM, who was lucky on his third try, has considerable influence in the constituencies of Kochadhaman, Kishanganj, Amour, Bahadurganj, Baisi, Thakurganj and Jokihat in Seemanchal, of which he has won five seats. This is why Owaisi primarily targeted the RJD-Congress combination during most of his election rallies. He had blamed the RJD-Congress combination for neglecting the region for a long time. Owaisi also raised issues like NRC-CAA at his campaign rallies.
Unsurprisingly, AIMIM’s political rivals accuse him of being BJP’s ‘B’ team and of being a “vote katwa (vote cutter)”.

MLC Congress Prem Chandra Mishra admitted that AIMIM abolished the Mahagathbandhan in the Seemanchal region, causing losses to the alliance. “Owaisi, in general, helped the NDA in that particular region, considered a Mahagathbandhan stronghold,” he said.
RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan echoed similar views. However, a look at the details of the voting in the constituencies where AIMIM was in contention shows that the main damage was in the form of their winning seats that would otherwise have been expected to go to the grand alliance. There were almost no seats in which the NDA led and AIMIM got more votes than the margin.
Of the 24 seats in Seemanchal, AIMIM and its allies, BSP and RLSP, are competing 20 seats. Of them, AIMIM is in the fray in 14 constituencies. “Initial results have shown that the party, which opened its account in the 2019 election campaign, is spreading its wings in the Muslim-dominated region of the state,” said Arshad Nizam, a retired political activist and professor from Purnia.
