A 37-year-old Dalit leader was shot dead at his residence in Bihar’s Purnea district today. His wife has alleged that this is a case of “political assassination”, as her husband was preparing to contest the next elections to the Bihar Assembly as an independent candidate after he was expelled from the RJD.
Following the assassination, a video went viral showing slain leader Shakti Malik accusing RJD’s Tejashwi Prasad Yadav of demanding 50 lakh rupees as a donation from Shakti Malik in lieu of a party ticket to challenge the vote from Raniganj’s seat and threaten to remove it. if she continues with her good work in the constituency.
The ruler JD (U) claimed that the opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has displayed his true colors before the nation. Repeated attempts to reach senior RJD leaders for their reaction were unsuccessful.
Three men on bicycles entered Shakti Malik’s home in Purnea in the morning and shot him in the head while he was sleeping, killing him on the spot, and fled, police said.
A domestically made pistol and an empty cartridge were found at the scene, said police officer Sunil Kumar Mandal.
Police Superintendent Vishal Sharma and Sadar Subdivision Police Officer Anand Pandey visited the scene.
In the video that has gone viral, Malik claimed that he, along with the chairman of the state unit of the RJD SC / ST cell, met with Tejashwi Prasad Yadav in Patna, where the RJD leader asked for 50 lakh rupees as donating him for a match ticket to compete. Raniganj Assembly constituency.
According to the video, when Shakti Malik said that he would let him know his decision later, Tejashwi Yadav made a caste comment against him and threatened to remove him.
It was not immediately clear when Shakti Malik made this statement to a Purnea-based television channel.
Shakti Malik’s wife also alleged that there is a political conspiracy behind her husband’s murder and named several leaders who could be involved in it.
JD (U) spokesman Rajiv Ranjan Prasad stated that Shakti Malik was a Mahadalit and the statements of his relatives corroborate the accusations made by him.
“We have been raising the issue of dynastic politics, corruption, the inexperience of Tejashwi Yadav, especially in dealing with the politics of alliances, but the latest allegations have fully exposed it,” Prasad told reporters.
The allegations that RJD leaders distribute party tickets after taking money or land are not new, he alleged.
Raiv Ranjan Prasad also alleged that Tejashwi Yadav’s “concern” for the Dalits was exposed when the former Chief Minister of Bihar, Jitan Ram Manjhi, had to leave the Grand Alliance due to dishonest treatment by the RJD leadership.
