Amid opposition criticism of the BJP’s Bihar poll promise of free COVID vaccines, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman claimed on Saturday that the announcement was perfectly in order and that a party can announce what it wants to do. when it comes to coming to power.
Sitharaman had published the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) manifesto for Bihar polls on Thursday. A highlight of the promises made in the document was free COVID vaccinations for the people of the state if the BJP returns to power.
Opposition parties criticized the BJP for the promise and demanded action from the Electoral Commission (EC), while claiming that the ruling party was using the pandemic for political gain.
Speaking to reporters here, Ms Sitharaman, a high-ranking BJP leader, said: “It’s a manifest announcement. A party can announce what it wants to do when it comes to power. That is exactly what is advertised. Health is a matter of state. It is perfectly in order. “
Each party in its manifesto declares what it wants to do when it comes to power, he added.
The Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in three phases, starting on October 28.
