A meeting of senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to discuss the way forward ahead of the Bihar assembly elections scheduled for late October and early November this year is underway at the party chief’s residence, JP Nadda, Sunday.
Union Interior Minister Amit Shah, Bihar’s Senior Deputy Minister Sushil Modi, State Minister for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai and Bihar’s party leader Bhupender Yadav were present at the meeting, according to the agency. news ANI.
The election meeting comes after Prime Minister Nitish Kumar’s BJP and Janata Dal (United) decided on a 50-50 seat participation deal after the alliance partners solved most of the related issues.
However, there is no information about his agreement with the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), the third partner of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar. In addition to challenging the prime minister’s job, the LJP has also demanded “seats of his choice”, as some of the seats considered are bastions of JD (U) and BJP.
The LJP will hold a meeting of its Central Parliamentary Board later in the day, ANI reported. LJP leader Chirag Paswan said his father underwent heart surgery due to sudden events on Saturday night that forced him to cancel a party meeting and rush to the side of the Union minister.
The NDA has yet to announce a seat-sharing agreement involving all of its constituents amid growing differences between the JD (U) and the LJP. An announcement about the seats each of the alliance partners will play is likely to be announced Sunday night.
Elections for the 243-seat Bihar assembly will be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7. The results of the first election exercise during the prevailing coronavirus pandemic will be declared on November 10.
