Bihar Assembly Election 2020: A fierce battle between RJD and BJP in Jamui constituency

The Jamui assembly constituency, which will witness the elections during the first of three phases of the Bihar assembly elections on October 28, has been represented by a Rajput leader ten times in the past. This year the fight is between the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Key contenders for this year’s Bihar assembly elections include RJD leader and current Vijay Prakash and BJP newcomer Shreyasi Singh. Both sides have been embroiled in a war of words this time on the issue of employment for the people of Bihar.

This is the first time that the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has faced a candidate from Jamui. Shreyasi, daughter of the late Digvijay Singh, is a professional marksman and has represented India at the Commonwealth Games winning gold and silver medals.

During the 2015 assembly elections, the RJD defeated the BJP by a margin of 8,249 votes. RJD’s Vijay Prakash obtained 66,577 votes and was declared the winner. He is the youngest son of former Union State Minister for Water Resources and RJD leader Jay Prakash Narayan Yadav.
