After keeping a low profile for several days, Eijaz Khan has finally emerged as a strong voice on Bigg Boss 14. From going against ‘Toofani Senior’ Sidharth Shukla on the task, to taking a stand for himself when it comes to House duties to even keeping the boys together, Eijaz drew attention on Tuesday’s episode.
Before entering the show, Eijaz spoke exclusively with indianexpress.com about taking Bigg Boss 14 as a challenge, his strategy, and why he will choose to be nice on the show.
Here are some excerpts from the conversation:
He has been contacted by Bigg Boss multiple times over the years. What made you finally give up?
There are many reasons, and the most important is that this year has changed the rules of the game. Like the season’s theme ‘scene palat chuka hai’, it also needed to change. Plus, Bigg Boss is the biggest platform and safest workplace right now. Also, only a very lucky few are managing to make money this year. Everything seemed to fit together beautifully. I have taken a different approach to life and now I plan on doing all those things that scare me, or things that I felt were not cool enough for me.
You are known to be quite a loner in the industry. Do you think you can survive on the show with so many strangers?
If I was a people-pleasing person, I don’t think I would have been chosen. I am a simple person, and if that gives way to friendship or enmity, we will have to see. I’ll be honest, there is a lot of anxiety and nervousness but I am very grateful to have this opportunity. All I can do is thank God and hope to enjoy the experience to the fullest. I recently started praying five times a day. I feel healthy and now I just hope amazing things happen to me.
What can we expect from you in Bigg Boss 14?
I do not know. I feel like I might be making some big claims as we’ll only know what happens once the show starts. All I can say is that I feel like my core has realigned. I am not afraid of what will happen. As I know, whatever happens, it will be for the better.
Any strategy you have planned?
No way. I think over the years we have learned that the house always wins. All one can do is be good and do whatever it takes. I think the year has taught us the importance of being kind. And if you are kind, that does not mean that you are harmless or powerful. It means that you chose goodness even when you could be a monster. I can feel in my bones that I’m back and I can’t wait to be on the show. I don’t know if I will win, but I will definitely be the last man standing. I will not back down.

She recently opened up about her mental health issues. Will you take the opportunity to publicize the same in the program?
I’d love to, but it’s an entertainment show and I wouldn’t want to hijack it. This show has its own controversies, but we can’t deny that it is staggering in scope. If the creators or Salman bhai engage me in a conversation, I’d love to address it. Honestly, I always thought I was pretty awake, but lost sleep before going public with my issues. I can only imagine what youth goes through. There is simply no conversation on this topic, and it is very important. I’m not a messiah and I feel like there are more important people who can talk about it, and we should force this conversation as well. That is the only way to save many lives today.
Since you talked about it a few days before entering Bigg Boss, do you think that some contestants might judge it or use it against you?
I think that people are not so ruthless as to have such a wicked attitude. I hope they don’t use this against me or try to provoke me. However, if they do, I can’t change them. It was important for me to talk about it. I was scared, so I opened up. I was scared and took Bigg Boss. I really feel that only when you can overcome your fears, can you grow.
What would you miss the most about the show?
My birds, who come home every day for breakfast. I lost my two dogs and so I will miss my friend’s dogs, who think I’m their dad. I feel terrible that they think I abandoned them. I really hope you understand.
