It has not been a series to remember for the Indian cricket team. The India team have lost their first two ODIs to Australia to lose the series and have drawn much criticism. Steve Smith has been ominous in the series, crushing two hundred in a row to lead his team to victory against India. It is not the centuries that have hurt India, but the way it has scored those runs.
While he hit 105 runs on just 66 balls in the first ODI, Smith took just 62 balls to hit a hundred in the second game. Due to Smith’s brilliance, Australia has put a total of 374 and 389 respectively in the top two ODIs.
But former Australian player Brad Hogg is not happy with the strategy Indian bowlers have followed against Smith. Hogg said the bowlers could have tried throwing more gorillas at Smith.
“The big problem for me for India was that when Steve Smith came out, they didn’t try to turn him down at any point. They released in a good length or a little fuller. I can’t understand that, because Steve Smith’s weakness is with the short ball, ”Brad Hogg said in a video on his YouTube channel.
“Steve Smith walks, he had both legs planted and he’s a little tight to his chest. So you can’t bend over and walk away and you have to play the shooting shot. You could have prepared the whole tour with Steve Smith on the defensive, ”he added.
Hogg also spoke about how short-pitch deliveries worry Maxwell too, but India hasn’t been able to exploit that rift in its armor.
