Biden takes a narrow lead over Trump in Georgia as vote counting continues

With the winner of the presidency yet to be declared, attention has now shifted to a handful of states that remain too close to call.

Democrat Joe Biden is closing in on the 270 Electoral College votes needed to run the White House, securing victories on the battlefields of Wisconsin and Michigan and narrowing Trump’s path. Biden has also taken a small lead (917 votes) in the crucial state of Georgia, where Trump initially led.

Federal judges in the United States on Friday dismissed Donald Trump’s campaign lawsuits in Georgia and Michigan that challenged the integrity of the voting process in states where the result could spell defeat for the president. In Michigan, the campaign had tried to stop the counting of absentee votes, while in Georgia it had alleged that even incorrect votes were counted.

Biden has projected optimism about the election results and the vote count, saying “the process is working.” Meanwhile, Trump again asserted that the election results so far were part of a broad conspiracy to deprive him of a second Democratic term. “If legal votes are counted, I win easily,” Trump said, without providing proof of his claim.
