US President-elect Joe Biden appointed an all-female White House communications team, electing former Barack Obama administration State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki as his press secretary for the White House, the Biden-Harris transition team made the announcement Sunday.
“I am proud to announce today the White House’s first senior communications team made up entirely of women. These skilled and experienced communicators bring diverse perspectives to their work and a shared commitment to better rebuild this country,” said Biden.
Jen Psaki, 41, who has been elected to the position of White House Press Secretary, currently oversees the confirmation team for the Biden-Harris Transition.
“It is an honor to work again for Joe Biden, a man I worked for during the Obama-Biden administration as he helped lead the economic recovery, rebuild our relationships with partners (good practice), and injected empathy and humanity into almost every meeting. I sat down, “Psaki tweeted.
During the Obama-Biden administration, Psaki held several senior positions, including White House communications director and State Department spokesman under then-Secretary of State John Kerry. In addition to Psaki, six other appointments were announced.
Biden’s communications team will be led by Kate Bedingfield, who will serve as the White House communications director. Bedingfield has served as deputy campaign manager and communications director for the Biden-Harris campaign.
Bedingfield took to Twitter to express his gratitude and said that I am indescribably proud to have the opportunity to serve as the White House communications director for @joebide.
She has served as Vice President Biden’s director of communications and as associate director of communications, deputy director of media affairs and director of response in the Obama-Biden White House.
Other appointees include Ashley Etienne as Harris Communications Director and Symone Sanders as Harris Senior Advisor and Lead Spokesperson.
Pili Tobar has been named deputy director of communications for the White House and Karine Jean Pierre will be deputy chief press officer. Elizabeth Alexander was appointed director of communications for incoming first lady Jill Biden. Appointments do not require Senate confirmation unlike most Cabinet-level positions.
About the team, Psaki said, this is a team of some of the most talented and battle-tested communicators.
Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have sought to emphasize diversity in their appointments and nominations thus far before their January 20 inauguration.
Vice President-elect Kamala Harris said these communications professionals express our commitment to building a White House that reflects the best of our nation.
Although election officials in the states on the battlefield have already certified Biden’s victory, yet the president of the United States, Donald Trump, continues to question the legitimacy of his victory, accusing fraud and irregularity in the elections.
Additionally, Trump has searched multiple states for accounts. Additionally, lawsuits have been filed in state and federal courts, saying that only legal votes should be counted and illegal votes should be discarded.
