Dubai [UAE]October 5 (ANI): India and Sunrisers Hyderabad pacemaker Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been excluded from the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League due to a hip injury suffered during their victory over Chennai Super Kings at the International Stadium of Dubai cricket on Friday.
Speaking to ANI, team sources confirmed that the pacemaker will have to skip the cash-rich league due to the injury.
“Bhuvi will no longer be able to participate in this year’s tournament as he has been ruled out with a hip injury. A great blow for sure as he is someone who leads the bowling unit and is also an integral part of the bowling group leadership on the ground, “said the source.
Bhuvneshwar suffered the injury and left the field at 19. He tried bowling and had to stop twice before the physiotherapist decided that he had to leave and continue playing the game.
Speaking after the game, captain David Warner had said that he did not have much idea of the severity of the injury since he was on the field and that he would have to consult with the physical therapist. “I’m not really sure, I have to talk to the physio, I can answer this question when we have more information,” Warner had said at the post-match press conference.
In the draw for the next game against the Mumbai Indians on Sunday, Warner had said it looked like the pacemaker would miss a couple of games. But the hip injury will see him miss the season as it is also an integral part of India’s plans for the series against Australia that follows the IPL.
India will play a full series against Australia after this, which will see them fight in a 4-match test series, followed by a series of limited overs. While Virat Kohli and the boys were initially scheduled to start a T20I series with an eye toward the T20 World Cup, that plan was abandoned when the coronavirus pandemic saw the main event postponed.
