Mann said: “While I am grateful to the Honorable Supreme Court of India for nominating me to the 4-member committee to initiate a dialogue with Kisan Unions on the three laws introduced by the Central Government. As a farmer, myself, and a union leader, In view of the prevailing sentiments and apprehensions among agricultural unions and the general public, I am willing to sacrifice any position that is offered or given to me so as not to compromise the interests of Punjab and the country’s farmers, I am recusing myself from the Committee and I will always be with my farmers and Punjab. “

Earlier Tuesday, the high court had appointed four experts to the panel, including Ashok Gulati, an agricultural economist; Bhupinder Singh Mann, President of the Bhartiya Kisan Union-Mann; Anil Ghanwat, President of Shetkari Sangathan; and Pramod Kumar Joshi, International Institute for Food Policy Research.

On Tuesday, Attorney General (AG) KK Venugopal had told the Supreme Court that supporters of Khalistan had infiltrated the farmers’ protest against the three agricultural laws. When a bank headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde together with justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian told the attorney general that if there is infiltration by a banned organization, then the government has to confirm it.

The CJI asked Venugopal to submit an affidavit before Wednesday, AG replied: “Yes, I will submit an affidavit and IB reports.”

The Chief Justice asked the attorney general: “Will you confirm this?” The attorney general replied: “We have said that the Khalistanis have infiltrated the protests.” He added that the government cannot allow a lakh of people protesting against agricultural laws to enter the national capital. “One group can go to Parliament … the other group can go to the Supreme Court,” the AG said.

The President of the Supreme Court also asked the Attorney General: “Is it not in your power to verify the number of people and see if they are armed or not and if there is an infiltration of a prohibited organization? The Attorney General reiterated that the government will record the IB report on the aspect of infiltration.
