Bhubaneswar: As Covid Cases Fall, BMC Delivers Hospital Beds | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: With Covid cases falling in the city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has delivered 1050 beds in different hospitals. Currently, 65% of the existing general beds and more than 300 ICU beds are empty. After Diwali, if there is a resurgence in Covid cases, the BMC will take a call to increase health infrastructure with the permission of the government.
“Currently around one hundred ICU beds are used. With cases on the way down, we have delivered over a thousand beds. We are monitoring the daily Covid count and will make a decision accordingly, ”said BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhury.
Covid patients from Bhubaneswar, as well as from the periphery and other districts, are treated in specific Covid hospitals and in private hospitals that have 30 or more beds. Private hospitals have been authorized to use 50% of their beds for Covid patients. As cases across the state are declining, the burden on hospitals has dropped. Furthermore, after the government allowed Covid treatment in private hospitals, many of those who can pay are admitted there, reducing the burden on dedicated Covid hospitals. The city reported 75 new cases against 142 recoveries on Wednesday. Active cases in the past four months have fallen below 1,000. With 172 deaths and 28,280 recoveries, the city now has 981 active cases, while the total Covid count is now 29,454.
