Bhim’s army chief Chandrashekhar Azad said he will organize a protest at 5pm on Friday in front of the India Gate in Delhi against the gang rape of the 19-year-old Dalit woman in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh.
In a video message, Azad said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi needed to break his silence on the brutal rape of the woman. The victim died at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Tuesday, 15 days after higher caste men gang-raped her while she was out with her mother to forage.
“The prime minister washes Dalits’ feet before the elections, but remains silent when a Dalit daughter from Uttar Pradesh is brutally raped. We will organize a protest at India Gate today at 5pm. The prime minister will have to give us answers, ”he said.
Bhim’s army chief had also led a protest at Safdarjung hospital gate number 5 on Tuesday, shortly after the victim was pronounced dead. He urged all members of the Dalit community to take to the streets and demand the death penalty for the guilty. “The government should not test our patience. We will not rest until the culprits are hanged, ”he said.
On Wednesday, Azad was placed under house arrest by local police in Saharanpur, where he started a “dharna”.
Rape incidents were reported in many UP districts, he said, demanding that the president’s rule prevail in the state. “Hathras, Azamgarh, Bulandshahr, Meerut, Balrampur… all districts of Uttar Pradesh are being shamed by rape incidents. The constitutional machinery has completely failed. Yogi Adityanath cannot run the government. The President should announce the President’s Rule as soon as possible, ”he said in a Hindi tweet.
“I am sitting in my house in a dharna, injustice will not be tolerated. In Uttar Pradesh, Dalits suffer injustice. The DM and SSP of Hathras who have been protecting criminals and performing inhumane acts have yet to be removed. How can justice be expected from such unworthy people? “he asked in another tweet.
Azad arrived in Delhi along with supporters of his Bhim army on Thursday.
