A Mumbai court on Monday granted comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa bail in a drug case. The couple, who were arrested by the Bureau of Narcotics Control (NCB) following the seizure of ganja from their home, were sent to judicial custody until December 4.
While Bharti was arrested on Saturday, Haarsh was arrested on Sunday. The NCB told the Esplanade court that the two had confessed to using marijuana. Singh is said to have told officers that she would smoke marijuana purchased by her husband. Limbachiyaa said he bought marijuana from a street vendor and that he would keep a smuggling bag in his office and another at his home for consumption.
Search operations were carried out on the couple’s properties after a tip. The NCB recovered a 65 gram bag of ganja from the Limbachiyaa production house in Versova. Later, another search was carried out at his residence, Oberoi Springs in Andheri, where another bag containing 21.5 grams of cannabis and unaccounted for cash of Rs 1.49 lakh was seized.
NCB officials said they had recently arrested a 21-year-old man from the Khar Danda area, who was allegedly involved in drug trafficking. During their questioning, the names of Singh and Limbachiyaa came up, after which raids were carried out on their residence, an NCB official said.
Singh and Limbachiya have been registered under sections 20 (b) (ii) (A) (involves small amounts of drugs) and 8 (c) (possession of drugs) and 27 (use of drugs) of the NDPS Act.
Singh, who has appeared on several popular television comedy shows, is currently hosting another comedy show called Khatra Khatra Khatra with her husband.
