Bharat Biotech will manufacture vaccines in Odisha


In good news for millions of Indians, Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech International Ltd or BBIL announced that it will manufacture 10 types of vaccines, including malaria and novel coronavirus, at its next unit in Odisha.

Attending a virtual meeting with Chief Secretary of State Asit Tripathy on Friday, BBIL President and Managing Director Dr. Krishna Ella said: “The company has begun developing and producing new or improved vaccines against severe rotavirus diarrhea, malaria, Japanese encephalitis, and rabies., Pandemic influenza, and drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. “

Introducing the BBIL preparation, Dr. Ella said that the best technology will be brought into the Odisha unit.

Total investment to be close 300 cr

“It is a unit in Andharua of Bhubaneswar that would produce ten types of vaccines, including the vaccine against malaria and COVID-19. The total investment would be around Rs 300 crore and the best technology will be put into the unit,” he added She.

BBIL ​​is a multidimensional biotechnology organization that specializes in vaccine manufacturing and biotherapeutics, Ella said.

Meanwhile, Asit Tripathy also assured that BBIL would receive full support for the future expansion of the unit in Andharua. It also ordered the concerned authorities to begin ground-level construction work within fifteen days and begin production within the scheduled time.

Additionally, Tripathy asked BBIL to establish a state-of-the-art biotech incubation center, common facilities and an IT corridor in conjunction with the construction of the first phase of the industry. The company was asked to promote local startups.

The Secretary for Skills Development and Technical Education and IDCO President and Managing Director Sanjay Kumar Singh assessed, “The land is available in Biotech Park, Andharua for pioneering works. The construction plan as designed has also been approved.”

Chief Secretary Santosh Sadangi said: “Meanwhile, the legal authorizations and permission from the pollution control board necessary to install the unit have been obtained.”
