'Beta, will punish the guilty': Amarinder Singh to Suresh Raina in attack

Capt Amarinder Singh said an SIT will investigate the attack on Suresh Raina’s family

Chandigarh:

A special investigation team will investigate the brutal attack on members of the family of cricketer Suresh Raina at his home in Pathankot, Punjab. Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, while giving his condolences to Mr. Raina, tweeted that the special investigation team or SIT “will ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.”

The 33-year-old cricketer lost his uncle and a cousin after the family was attacked at their Pathankot home, reportedly by burglars on August 20.

“Condolences the brutal attack on @ImRaina’s relatives in Pathankot. I have ordered SIT to investigate the case and have asked @DGPPunjabPolice to identify and arrest the culprits as soon as possible. Beta, my DC and SSP have met with the family and we will make sure the culprits are brought to justice, “Singh tweeted.

Raina had tweeted this morning an appeal to the Amarinder Singh government seeking a full investigation into the killings.

“What happened to my family in Punjab was beyond horrible. My uncle was killed to death, my bua and my two cousins had serious injuries. Unfortunately, my cousin also passed away last night after fighting for life for days. My bua is still very, very, “critical and on life support,” the cricketer tweeted.

“To date, we do not know what exactly happened that night and who did this. I ask @PunjabPoliceInd to investigate this matter. At least we deserve to know who did this heinous act to them. Those criminals should not skimp on committing more crimes,” he said .

Three or four men from a local gang attacked the family at their Pathankot home while they were all sleeping, the PTI news agency reported. The cricketer’s uncle, 58, died after sustaining head injuries; four other family members were injured.

Last week, Raina withdrew from the upcoming 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) due to “personal reasons”. The 2020 IPL is scheduled to be played from September 19 to November 10 at three locations in the United Arab Emirates: Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai.
