Delhi’s chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal, on Friday urged his party workers and MPs, councilors and volunteers to go to public places and distribute free masks to those who do not wear a mask as the national capital prepares for a tougher fighter against the coronavirus disease outbreak. .
“Today, this is the best deshbhakti n manav sewa. I urge all political parties to also ask their volunteers to do this. Let’s join hands to stop the spread of the crown, ”CM Kejriwal said in a tweet.
Kejriwal’s tweet comes amid a series of beefed-up measures in Delhi to combat the viral contagion. The national capital has witnessed an increase in coronavirus cases since October 28, when the daily increase surpassed the 5,000 mark for the first time and surpassed the 8,000 mark on November 11.
Among various measures taken by the state government, the authorities announced a hefty fine of Rs 2,000 for not wearing masks, the reservation of 80% of ICU beds in private hospitals, the doubling of testing centers in each district and the postponement of non-critical surgeries in health facilities.
As of this week, Delhi accounts for 22.39 percent of reported deaths nationwide in a 24-hour span by recording 131 deaths on Wednesday and has become the largest contributor to Covid-19 deaths in a single day in India.
