BENGALURU: The NIA conducted searches here on Wednesday, including at the offices of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the political wing of the Popular Front of India (PFI), in relation to the riots and violent attacks on the police stations in the city in August, an official said.
The searches were carried out at 43 locations in Bengaluru, including four SDPI offices, in connection with the riots and violent attacks against the DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations in Bengaluru on August 11, a National Agency spokesperson said. Research (NIA).
The cases concern large-scale riots, which caused injury to police personnel, destruction of public and private property, including police station buildings and public and private vehicles, he said, adding that the rioters were armed with lethal weapons.
The riots sparked fear and panic in nearby areas and were intended to cause terror in society, the NIA spokesman said.
So far, 124 defendants have been arrested in the DJ Halli police station case and 169 in the KG Halli police station case, he said.
During the raids, incriminating material related to the SDPI and the PFI and weapons such as swords, knives and iron bars were seized, the official added.
More than 3,000 people raged in Bengaluru on August 11, setting fire to the residences of the MLA R Congress Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy, his sister Jayanthi and the two police stations.
The violence erupted over an alleged incendiary post on social media by the MLA Congressional nephew.
Three people were killed by police gunshots, while another died from abdominal injuries sustained in the violence.
Recently, former Congressional Mayor R Sampath Raj, who was wanted in the Bengaluru violence case, he was arrested.
