Bengaluru riots: NIA searches 43 locations


Two days after the former mayor of Bengaluru, Sampath Raj, was arrested in a case related to communal disturbances in the city, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a search in 43 places, including four offices of the Social Democratic Party. of India (SDPI), the political wing of the Popular Front of India (PFI). “The cases concern large-scale riots armed with lethal weapons that caused injury to police personnel, destruction of public and private property, including the buildings of the DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations and public and private vehicles. The revolt generated fear and panic in nearby areas and was intended to cause terror in society, ”the NIA said in a statement.

So far, 124 defendants have been arrested in the case of DJ Halli Police Station and 169 in the case of KG Halli Police Station.

During the searches, incriminating material related to the SDPI and the PFI and weapons such as swords, knives and iron bars were seized, the NIA said.

On August 11, a mob enraged by an alleged insult to the prophet had set fire to more than 60 vehicles, as well as the DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations, as well as the legislator of the House of Congress, Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy. In the subsequent police shooting, three people died. More than 377 people were arrested for the violence and a preliminary indictment sheet filed by police in the case said rivalry within the party within Congress was one of the key reasons for the unrest.
