Launching a searing attack on West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Union Interior Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that the way TMC workers attacked BJP National Chairman JP Nadda during his tour of Bengal demonstrates the situation of law and order in the state. “The BJP condemns it and I also condemn it personally. BJP believes that in a democracy everyone should have the right to express their opinions. And it is the responsibility of the ruling party to ensure that all political parties can have a voice. The attack on the BJP boss is not just an attack on him. It is an attack on democracy in West Bengal and the Trinamool Congress is fully responsible for this, ”said Shah.
‘I’ve never seen a tour like this, the people of Bengal want a change’: Amit Shah
Revealing that the CM candidate of the BJP in West Bengal for the 2021 Assembly elections will be someone from Bengal, not an ‘outsider’ as what Mamata Banerjee generally refers to as the core BJP leaders when they visit the state, Amit Shah said: “Do you want a country where people from one state will not visit another? Did you call Indira Gandhi, Pranab Mukherjee, Narasimha Rao outsiders when they used to come to West Bengal? But don’t worry, no one from Delhi will come to defeat him. Someone from Bengal will challenge him and he will be the next CM of the state. ”
With several former Trinamool leaders such as Mukul Roy, Suvendu Adhikari in his fold now, the CM face of BJP in Bengal will be worth the wait as Amit Shah did not release further details. In fact, he dismissed any link between his ‘bhumiputra will challenge Mamata’ comment with Suvendu Adhikari – when asked.
After JP Nadda’s convoy was attacked earlier this month while touring the state, there was a bitter Center against West Bengal. While Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the attack was staged when national leaders of the BJP came with their separate security cover, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar in his report condemned the law and order situation in Bengal. The Interior Ministry summoned top West Bengal government officials, including the chief secretary, but the state government decided not to respond and called the Center’s interference detrimental to the federal structure. Finally, on Friday, a video conference was arranged between the Union’s Home Secretary and West Bengal government officials, ahead of Amit Shah’s visit to Bengal.
“We have not done anything in Bengal that is against the federal structure,” Shah said on Sunday.
Commenting on TMC’s support for the ongoing farmers’ protest, Amit Shah said: “West Bengal is not giving 6,000 rupees to its farmers. Mamata di is not releasing those funds, but is supporting farmers’ protests. First, release that money. Give that money away only on the occasion of your nephew’s birthday. 23 lakh farmers in Bengal have applied for PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi online. Mamata di still warns them by not giving them a real certification! He’s not even sending a list of farmers to the Center. “
