Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Tuesday a reversal of her government’s decision to ban cultural programs during Durga Puja, saying such events could be organized in open spaces or in hallways if all health protocols were followed.

“We have allowed meetings of 100 people if all the Covid-19 protocols are followed. If you have larger spaces, you can also accommodate 200 people, but do not organize such programs near Puja pandals. Then it will be difficult for the police and the bidding committee to handle the crowd, ”said the chief minister at an event in which she presented two double-decker tour buses.

Banerjee told police to be “a bit flexible” as artists are out of work amid the pandemic. “Where there are options to organize a small cultural program with 150 people and that will not create any problems and will not spread the disease, we have no problem,” he added.

Banerjee again urged people to follow health protocols during Durga Puja. Please wear masks to protect yourself. Sanitize your hands properly and always try to keep your physical distance to combat the spread of the disease, ”he said.

The Chief Minister announced that Amazon had established a logistics center in the Uluberia industrial park in the Howrah district. “We have started the new Amazon fulfillment center. From here they will work directly to the east and northeast, and a total of 20,050 people will be employed indirectly. This is something important that is happening in West Bengal. This will generate great employment in this area and I am hopeful that more and more logistics centers will come and invest, ”Banerjee said.

Commending her administration for the introduction of double-decker buses, the chief minister said: “I will also thank the tourism department for introducing the double-decker bus service, which will operate twice a week.”

The buses will offer a tour of the heritage and cultural places of Kolkata. Visitors can also enjoy a boat ride on the Ganges. Services can be booked on the website of the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation from 23 October.
