On Tuesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee underscored the need for a three-month plan to deal with the Covid-19 crisis, and announced that areas in red zones would soon have more relaxation while the 100-day work plan was would reboot into Containment Areas.

“Don’t think that we will soon be relieved from the Covid-19 crisis. We should have a short three-month plan to deal with the situation,” Banerjee told reporters after a review meeting with state officials.

The Chief Minister said that the red zones would be divided into three categories and added: “Measures will also be taken to restart the 100-day work scheme in non-containment areas.”

Banerjee criticized the Center’s national closure plan, saying that people faced problems because it was “poorly planned.” Her comment came less than 24 hours after her video conference meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which she criticized the Center for politicizing the state’s response to the pandemic.

He also defended his administration’s decision to establish a death audit panel, which was dissolved. “Accusations were made against us regarding the audit panel and comorbidity deaths. Now, the Center has approved [tallying of] comorbidity deaths, and other states are doing it too. “

The CM said the state’s test numbers were low because it only has four labs. He added that his administration had requested permission from the Center to establish more laboratories.

Banerjee said that before each meeting with the Prime Minister he hopes the state will receive some central assistance, but always ends empty-handed. He also reiterated his government’s demand for the payment of outstanding GST dues.

“We are not blaming anyone, but every time there is a meeting with the Prime Minister we hope we get something [financial aid], but we get nothing. The Center has a banking system, power to collect taxes. We collected taxes and gave them to the central government. The center should give us our fees. But they are not giving that. We are not begging, we just want to get our quotas from the GST and Central schemes. They have yet to clear our quotas of Rs 52,000 crore, ”said the Chief Minister.
