Calcutta:
With her leg in a cast and sitting in a wheelchair, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared today that nothing will prevent her from protecting the democratic rights of the people. The 66-year-old woman, whose leg was injured in Nandigram on Wednesday, highlighted a demonstration in the heart of Kolkata, rolling in her wheelchair along with hundreds of workers and party supporters.
“I am injured and ill, but my goal remains (to stand firm in their cause and the people of Bengal). My body is full of bruises. I will continue to roam Bengal in this wheelchair. If I do bed rest, who will? Will it? reach the people of Bengal? “she said.
“I will never bow down. Remember, a wounded tiger is extremely dangerous.”
Appealing to peace, he said: “May the wicked powers be destroyed and good prevail.”
Ms. Banerjee suffered leg injuries during a visit to Nandigram on Wednesday, where she had gone to present her nomination papers.
She initially said that four or five people pushed her against her car and closed the door on her at a time when there were no police personnel. But later he said: “I was waving to people from the hood of the car and there was enormous pressure … and the car crushed my foot.”
However, his party had written to the Election Commission, alleging that the Election Commission had made an attempt on his life “within 24 hours after the removal of the Bengal police chief” without consulting the state government.
Today, the Commission, which had ordered an investigation into the matter, said there is no evidence that the Chief Minister was attacked. Calling it an accident, the Commission said it circumvented the Chief Minister’s security protocol.
Mamata Banerjee, who has Z-Plus security, has to ride in a bulletproof car, but she didn’t, the survey panel said. Instead, the security officer was sitting in the bulletproof car, the Commission, adding that action will be taken against the security officer, Mr. Sahay.
