Bengal BJP Youth Leader’s Wife Joins TMC, Husband Wants Divorce

Sujata Mondal Khan, wife of the chairman of the Bengal Youth Front of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Saumitra Khan, joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday and said the state’s main opposition party was filling its ranks of leaders corrupt and ambitious from other parties promising themselves high positions.

She claimed that she was not shown any respect in the BJP although she worked hard for it when the party was in trouble. The 32-year-old did not hold any important positions in the BJP.

His sudden move developed an unprecedented family drama in Bengal politics with the 39-year-old Khan, who quickly called a press conference and declared that he will send the divorce papers to her within 24 hours.

“It breaks my heart to see 10 years of companionship come to an end in this way. The Lakshmi (the Hindu goddess of prosperity) from my home has been stolen, ”Khan said as tears rolled down his cheeks. “Sujata, I’ll send you papers for mutual divorce. Please sign it and do not use Khan, my last name, from today, ”he said.

“We had some differences in the last few months. He wanted an important position in the BJP, but had no idea that he was walking away from me, ”said Bharatiya State President Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and member of Lok Sabha.

Saumitra Khan is a former TMC leader who joined the BJP in January 2019. He was a member of TMC’s Lok Sabha from Bishnupur in Bankura district. He retained the seat by competing for the BJP and was appointed president of the state BJYM about three months ago.

“I watched with pain that corrupt and overly ambitious people, what can be called bad apples, are being dragged into the BJP. There is no place for hard-working people who fight for their principles, ”Sujata Khan said at TMC headquarters in Kolkata about two hours before her husband reacted.

“I married him against my family’s wishes. I love it and always will. I still have the red sindoor (vermilion) on my forehead, ”she told the media an hour after her husband spoke of the divorce. “Can a personal relationship end in divorce because of politics? No TMC leader told me that I have to divorce him to join the ruling party, “he added.

Sujata Khan was hosted at the TMC by Lok Sabha member Saugata Roy and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh. “Sujata is like my daughter. We are happy to have her at the party, ”said Roy.

When asked about her husband in the TMC office, Sujata Khan said: “Who knows if he too will not join TMC in the future.”

Her husband ruled out such a possibility. “I am a staunch BJP soldier. In upcoming polls I will present the seven segments of my constituency from Lok Sabha to Narendra Modi Ji, ”he joked.

Without naming Suvendu Adhikari, the former TMC minister who joined the BJP in the presence of Union Interior Minister Amit Shah on Saturday along with six other TMC MLAs and three more from the left and Congress, Sujata Khan said : “Some people are joining the BJP in hopes of becoming the next prime minister or senior vice minister. Dozens of people have been promised these posts. Imagine having a dozen deputy chief ministers. ”

Her husband, however, refuted this. “This is unfounded. Everyone has an assigned role. Nobody is big or small in the BJP, ”he said.

“I’m happy to see TMC go through a cleanup process as the greedy and bad apples are flocking to the BJP,” said the estranged wife of the BJYM state president. “Only those who realized that the TMC is not going to include them in the ballot box of the 2021 assembly are leaving,” he said at the TMC headquarters.

Jay Prakash Majumdar, BJP State Vice President, said: “Unlike Saumitra Khan, his wife has no political background. This has no political significance for us. ”
