Hyderabad: In a significant move toward enacting a new Revenue Law, the Telangana state government on Monday ordered a ‘holiday’ for all land registrations across the state. He also ordered the village revenue officials to hand over the land records to the tahsildars.
Ahead of the new Revenue Law, an order issued by Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar on Monday said all but some of the registry-related activities will be suspended from September 8 until further instructions are received.
The government is ready to introduce the revenue bill in the current Assembly session to replace the current one.
“Consequently, pursuant to the powers conferred under Rule 5 of the Telangana Registration Rules under the 1908 Registration Act, holidays are declared with effect from September 8 until they are issued new orders for all state registry and sub-registry offices with respect to all registry services under the Registry Act of 1908, “the order read.
However, registration of will deeds, marriage administration, and postage services will continue as usual.
The government of Prime Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao aims to introduce a new revenue model in the state, the key feature of which is the instant transfer of ownership. While the tehsildars will be in charge of registering agricultural land, sub-registrars will be in charge of non-agricultural land. Dharani’s website becomes crucial and the entries already made on it will receive sanctity.
The sudden move to stop the searches shocked people across the state. Some people organized protests near the sub-registry offices in the Nizamabad district while the closure of land transactions was taking place peacefully in the old Adilabad district. In some places, village revenue officials expressed anger at the decision to remove them.
