November 15, 1989 was the date that India’s greatest cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, came out to play his first international match. The Indian team was playing a test match in Karachi while the hosts, Pakistan, faced some of the best bowlers of the era.
The opponents were shocked to see a teenager come out with his willow tree and a bit of nervousness on his face. But they hardly knew that this boy would be known as the Cricket God that day.
One of the best rapids in Pakistan, Waqar Younis had also made his debut in that match. The game ended in a draw, while Tendulkar was fired by Waqar in the first inning with a score of just 15.
On the occasion of 31 years since Sachin’s international debut, the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) took to his Twitter account to thank the cricket legend for inspiring an entire generation with his excellent game.
Here’s the tweet:
Over the years, Tendulkar has made a name for himself in history as the ‘greatest hitter of all time’ and was also dubbed the ‘Master Blaster’. Tendulkar, said goodbye to international cricket in 2013 and to this day remains the top scorer for runs both in testing and ODI. It also holds the record for registering the most international centuries.
He added 34,357 runs across all formats, which is more than 6,000 runs ahead of former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara, who came in second.
Last year, Tendulkar became the sixth Indian to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. The 46-year-old made his debut for India at the age of 16 and immediately became the country’s favorite cricketer.
The Master Blaster has also served as a mentor to the Mumbai Indians who compete in the Indian Premier League.
