Over the years, various young gunmen have taken the cash rich league per round to make a name for themselves. A similar story has continued in the ongoing thirteenth season of IPL where Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Starter Devdutt Padikkal has attracted all the attention.
Padikkal has dazzled everyone with his consistency and brilliance. This includes the BCCI president and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly too. Recently, Ganguly has lavish praise at Padikkal for his outstanding performance in his first IPL season.
While talking to India today, Ganguly said he is hopeful that Padikkal will take his game to the highest level, to become the Indian cricket team next starter.
Ganguly named Padikkal as ‘very good talent’. The former captain of India recalled when he first saw the boy from Bangalore in a Ranji Trophy game against Bengal at Eden Gardens.
“He is a very good talent. Although T20 cricket is the first step … I saw him play an inning at Eden Gardens in the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy in Bengal vs Karnataka … Karnataka was a strong team and they stood their ground. “ Ganguly said.
“He has talent and time when he plays fast bowling. Let it go through a couple of seasons because the second season will be much more difficult. India wants starters, so hopefully they will play their game at the highest level. “ added.
Padikkal enjoyed a tremendous IPL debut season
Padikkal was one of the reasons behind RCB reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2016. The explosive opening hitter finished the 2020 IPL as RCB’s top scorer of races, surpassing the likes of virat Kohli Y Villiers AB.
Padikkal managed to accumulate 473 runs in 15 games with five half centuries. Broke 51 four Y eight sixes In the competition.
Before IPL 2020, Padikkal shone in the domestic circuit. With 580 races out of 12 games, finished as the best runner in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019. Whereas, in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Padikkal crushed 609 races in 11 games. It was its consistency with the willow that helped Karnataka to win the two limited tournaments.
