Sourav Ganguly, Chairman of the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) thanked all players from all franchises on Wednesday for making the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) possible.
The 2020 IPL kicked off on September 19 with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) facing horns against each other. The tournament came to an end on Tuesday when the Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals in the final to win their fifth IPL title.
“Along with the office bearers, I personally thank all the players on each IPL team for stepping through the tuff bio-bubble to make this tournament possible … it was tuff mentally, and our commitment makes Indian cricket what it is. @JayShah @ThakurArunS, “Ganguly tweeted.
The Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals by five wickets and eight balls to spare in the final of the tournament on Tuesday at the Dubai International Stadium.
As a result, the team led by Rohit Sharma won their fifth IPL title. The franchise had previously won the tournament in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019.
Rohit Sharma played a 68-run hit for Mumbai in the final, while for Delhi, Anrich Nortje ripped off two wickets.
Previously, Delhi Capitals had won the draw in the final against the Mumbai Indians and the team led by Shreyas Iyer had decided to hit first.
Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant played strokes of 65 and 56 respectively, while Delhi Capitals posted a total of 156/7 in the twenty assigned overs.
For the Mumbai Indians, Trent Boult took three wickets (Marcus Stoinis, Ajinkya Rahane and Shimron Hetmyer) while Nathan Coulter-Nile fired two batters: Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel.
At IPL 2020, Indians from Mumbai, Delhi Capitals, SunRisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) qualified for the playoffs.
While Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals finished in the lower half of the tournament.
