Australian team for the series against India: Aaron Finch in the lead, no place once again for Nathan Lyon
Cricket Australia announced on Thursday the ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming home series against India next month. Australia has handed over a first international call-up to off-roader Cameron Green, while veteran Moises Henriques has been retired.
Injured SUV Mitchell Marsh has not been named to any of the squads that will be led by Aaron Finch with Pat Cummins as a backup.
Described this week by former captain Greg Chappell as the best young player since Ricky Ponting, the talented 21-year-old Cameron Green scored 197 against New South Wales last week after half a century against South Australia.
“Cameron’s domestic form has been outstanding and he has carried it out for Western Australia this summer.” Selectors president Trevor Hohns said in a press release Thursday.
“As a potential player of the future, this is an opportunity for him to be part of the team and take advantage of his experience.”
Henriques for his part, has won a call-up in the national team after 3 years. Spinner Nathan Lyon’s hopes of playing all three formats have been dashed again, with Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar handling the slow bowling tasks.
Australia will play India in three one-day internationals in Sydney and Canberra starting on November 27, followed by three Twenty20s on December 4.
