Mumbai: In a big relief for the 4 lakhs of restaurants, bars and eateries in the state, Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray allowed them on Monday to restart operations from the first week of October.
The decision was made after a meeting between industry organizations and the CM, according to a government statement.
The hotels, bars and restaurants that have been greatly affected by the closure of the covid-19 have survived thanks to home deliveries.
Approximately 60 lakh of direct employees and 1.8 million indirect employees (in the supply of agricultural, dairy and other commodities) will benefit from this measure.
Industry leaders HRAWI and AHAR welcomed the decision that they said will help rebuild employment that was stagnant since the last seven months of closure.
“We are grateful to CM Uddhav Thackeray ji, who assured us today that the restaurants will be able to reopen in the first week of October,” said Sherry Bhatia, President of the West Indian Restaurant and Hotel Association (HRAWI).
The state government also agreed to waive consumer license fees for the six-month shutdown as well as postponing the September 30 first installment deadline, HRAWI said.
