rbi holidaysAs for the year 2021, banks in India will be closed for more than 40 days.

In January 2021, banks in India will be closed for 14 days, including four Sundays, second and fourth Saturdays, and a national holiday. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), these holidays can differ from state to state and be different for various banks. Clients are advised to plan their bank-related work accordingly, to avoid last minute problems. While banks will remain closed these days, mobile and internet banking will continue to function. As for the year 2021, banks in India will be closed for more than 40 days. It should be noted that the dates indicated below were reported by RBI under the Negotiable Instruments Law.

January 01, 2021- New Years

January 03, 2021 – Weekly off (Sunday)

January 9, 2021- Second Saturday

January 10, 2021 – Weekly off (Sunday)

January 17, 2021 – Weekly off (Sunday)

January 23, 2021- Fourth Saturday

January 24, 2021 – Weekly off (Sunday)

January 26, 2021 – Republic Day

January 31, 2021 – Weekly off (Sunday)

Regional holidays

January 02, 2021 – New Years Celebration

January 14, 2021 – Makar Sankranti / Pongal / Maghe Sankranti

January 15, 2021 – Thiruvalluvar / Magh Bihu and Tusu Puja Day

January 16, 2021 – Uzhavar Thirunal

January 23, 2021 – Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birthday

January 25, 2021- Imoinu Iratpa

January 26, 2021- Gaan-Ngai

Only Aizawl will observe a bank holiday on January 2 and 16, 2021. The holiday on January 14, 2021 will be observed on banks in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Gangtok and Hyderabad. Banks in Chennai and Guwahati will be closed on January 15, 2021, for Thiruvalluvar Day or Magh Bihu and Tusu Puja. Only Agartala will observe a bank holiday on January 23, 2021, on the occasion of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birthday. Whereas on January 25, 2021, only Imphal will observe a bank holiday due to Imoinu Iratpa. In addition, during the first quarter of 2021 (January-March), banks will be closed for 19 holidays, except Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays.
