A leader of the right-wing Bajrang Dal stated that those Hindus who visit churches to participate in Christmas celebrations will be “beaten.” The speech delivered at an event in Silchar in the Cachar district of Assam has been widely circulated in a video where Mithu Nath is seen giving the speech.

Nath, the secretary general of the district unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (the parent body of Bajrang Dal) says he is “outraged” by the alleged closure of the Vivekananda Center in Shillong, capital of the Christian-majority Meghalaya state, according to a NDTV report. .

Bajrang dal leaders said Hindus “would not be allowed” to attend Christmas Day programs and festivities.

“Hindus (who visit churches) will be beaten because I insult the Hindus who would go and have fun in a Christian function after closing our places of worship. No Hindu will go to church this Christmas. We will make sure of that, ”Nath said in the video.

“If we do (we assault Hindus), I know the headlines in the newspapers the next day: ‘Gunda Dal’ has destroyed the oriental school … but that is not our priority. We will not allow Hindus to participate in programs during the Christmas when temple doors close in Shillong, “he said.

Addressing a crowd, Mithu Nath said that the Khasi student union had closed a temple. However, a report said the claim was refuted by a senior Meghalaya government official. The official reportedly said that the cultural center had been closed (not blocked) due to a district holiday. The official added that no temple of the Ramakrishna Mission had been closed.

The right-wing leader also lashed out at “love jihad” and declared that Bajrang Dal would accept criticism to protect “our mothers and daughters.”
