Back on track: Delhi Metro starts trains at regular times

Days after resuming staggered operations in the national capital, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) began operating trains at regular times (6 a.m. to 11 p.m.) starting on Saturday. Metro services were closed on March 22, in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.

On Friday, the Delhi Metro registered a total number of passengers of 1,28,886 (as of 7:30 p.m.). The Magenta Line served 6,953 passengers and the Gray Line 514 passengers. The number of passengers on the Yellow Line (from Huda city center to Samaypur Badli) was 41,689, while on the Blue Line it was 38,623 (Dwarka Sector-21 to Vaishali / Noida Electronic Center). Pink Line (Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar) received 8,678 passengers and Red Line 15,485 passengers.

On Sundays (starting September 20) services will begin at 8 am from all sections that had this practice in vogue before closing as well.

However, DMRC added that metro operations will begin at 6 am tomorrow, September 13, as part of the gradual inauguration.

The DMRC resumed its services on September 7 in a phased manner. The progressive opening will be completed today with the reopening of the Airport Express line.

The Home Office had recently issued guidelines allowing the Delhi Metro to resume operations in a phased manner, after which the DMRC had said it would be done in three stages from 7 to 12 September.

To avoid a large crowd on the subway and at stations, DMRC CEO Mangu Singh has asked people to refrain from traveling during rush hour.
