Union Minister Babul Supriyo responded on Sunday to critics who criticized his now-deleted tweet against Mamata Banerjee, as controversy over the post grew. Making fun of her Trinamool Congress party’s election slogan, “Bengal wants her daughter,” the post contained an image of Amit Shah below Mamata Banerjee’s photo that read “A daughter is someone else’s wealth, she will be expelled.” Mr. Supriyo shared it on his social media accounts, adding, “Yes, we will fire her this time.”

The tweet had sparked a controversy on Saturday with many people, including Trinamool leaders and West Bengal ministers, condemning the post.

Responding on Facebook, Mr Supriyo wrote: “This is a viral post on social media … neither I created this nor is it a statement of mine … I have 2 daughters, therefore I do not need any ‘political’ party , either TMC or Left-Congress to explain what misogyny is “.
“I think most of you must be following my political career well and know what I’m saying and what mindset I have … but yes, we all have social media teams managing our accounts … and yes, some posts create controversies like this I did it … absolutely misunderstood with ‘obvious political motives’ but, I admit.
