Prithvi Shaw failed to make a contribution with the bat, sacked by a duck in the opening innings of the ongoing Australia A vs Indians touring game in Sydney. However, the starter redeemed himself to some degree Monday, making a brilliant one-handed catch on the square leg back to send Tim Paine packing on Day 2 of the practice game. Umesh Yadav dug one shortly and Paine pulled it out, but he didn’t get the best connections. The ball appeared to pass over Shaw, parked on the square leg, but the 21-year-old jumped up, extended his right hand and tossed it into the air, much to the delight of his teammates.

On-air commentators were effusive in their praise for Shaw, with one calling him “incredible grip.”

Shaw’s catch was also important for the team in the context of the game. Tim Paine and Cameron Green had rescued their team from a precarious situation at 98-for-5 by posting 104 runs for the sixth wicket.

But that brilliant partnership came to an end thanks to Shaw.

On Day 1, the Indians, consisting of Indian test specialists and a few other fringe players, won the toss and chose to hit. However, the two starters Shubman Gill and Shaw were fired by a duck in a nightmare start.

Hanuma Vihari (15) did not last long either as the Indians met at 40 times three. Cheteshwar Pujara (54) and Ajinkya Rahane came to the team’s rescue with excellent partnership.

Rahane went on to score a brilliant century, finishing the day at 237 for eight.

On Day 2, the Indians declared 247 for nine and Rahane was not out with 117.
