The debate over who will open the tickets for India alongside Mayank Agarwal in the first Test against Australia in Adelaide has been a hot topic since it was revealed that Rohit Sharma will not be part of the XI game. Many contenders emerged with fans and experts giving their preferences. Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw were the two names that came up over and over again. The two warm-up games were viewed by many as an audition for the opening spot with Gill and Shaw fighting. After watching the two players for four innings, fans have voiced their opinion and it’s not a pleasant read for Shaw.
Shaw was fired by 3 on Saturday, dropping his wicket with another loose shot, and that turned out to be the last straw for many fans, who took to Twitter to express their frustration. Others decided to have fun and posted memes.
Prithvi Shaw needs to play more domestic cricket, he looks rusty … better send him back instead of sitting around and fooling around …@ vikrantgupta73 @ rawatrahul9

he was ready to do a ton here but bad arbitrage cost him his window, should include himself in 1st xi, much better than highly overrated prithvi shaw

Absolutely zero need to rush Prithvi Shaw in the regular lineup. Let him go back to Ranji and fix his temper. Those loose bursts should go away.

You can’t take Prithvi Shaw’s role as test starter seriously. Clearly not ready. I don’t know what approach Kohli-Shastri is trying in this practice match, but don’t do it in an actual test. Please.

While both players failed to shoot in the first game of the tour at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney. Shaw and Gill were fired by a duck in the first inning, and this was followed by scores of 19 and 29, respectively, in the second when the game ended in a draw.
Both players had another chance in the second practice match underway at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Shaw risked his luck and scored 40 of 29 balls in the first innings.
Gill (43) scored three more runs than Shaw, but looked much more confident and in control in the area. However, in the second inning, Shaw was sent packing by Mark Steketee for just 3.
Promoted
Gill, however, was in no mood to throw down his window and reach a fluid half-century before being fired for 65.
As for performances in the two games on the tour, Gill has undoubtedly earned a march on Shaw and has become a fan favorite to open the tickets alongside Mayank Agarwal at the day-night test in Adelaide, which begins on December 17th.
