Yuzvendra Chahal chose three wickets and conceded 25 runs in the first T20I between Australia and India on Friday at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Chahal was named the Man of the Match, for his game-changing performance helping the visitors emerge victorious by 11 runs. India holds a 1-0 lead in the three-game series, with the second T20I taking place on Sunday at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Chahal gets a chance to write history over the course of the next clash, having reached a count of 58 wickets in T20I. A layoff on Sunday will make him India’s best carrier in the men’s T20I. Fast pitcher Jasprit Bumrah currently leads the charts with 59 layoffs.

Chahal may even become India’s largest wicket receiver in the shortest format of international cricket, if he gets two wickets.

Bumrah did not appear in the first S20I after having rested. There is no certainty as to whether the pacemaker will hit the field on Sunday, with the four-game test series between the two countries not far behind.

Originally, Chahal was not supposed to be part of the first T20I, as it had not been included in India’s XI. However, the leg-spinner was given a shot in the second inning, after being selected as a surrogate for Ravindra Jadeja’s concussion.

Jadeja was hit in the helmet by a Mitchell Starc goalie in the last over of the first inning.

The off-roader has been scrapped from the T20I series, with the Shardul Thakur pacemaker added to the team.
