Virat Kohli took to Twitter to praise India’s alternate captain Ajinkya Rahane, who scored an undefeated century on Day 2 of the ongoing Boxing Day test at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday. Rahane along with Ravindra Jadeja put India in complete control of the second Test of the four-game series, as the visitors finished Day 2 with an 82-run lead with five wickets in hand. “Another great day for us. Test cricket at its best. Absolutely the best shot from Jinks @ ajinkyarahane88,” Kohli tweeted.

Pat Cummins stole the show in the first session of the second day by throwing a nine-overs marathon and eliminating the two Indian hitters overnight: Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill.
Gill, on the test debut, missed his half-century by just five races while shining brightly in a wide delivery, only to gain a weak advantage for the wicketkeeper.
Pujara soon followed suit, but Rahane weathered the storm and cashed in later in the day when he helped India take a healthy lead in the first inning before rain forced the first stumps on Day 2 in Melbourne.
Rahane had the support of Hanuma Vihari and Rishbah Pant. The Indian skipper added more than 50 runs with both batters.
Ravindra Jadeja, who made it to six, also remained undefeated in 40 as India tightened its grip on the match.
Promoted
For the visitors, Mitchell Starc and Cummins collected two plots each, while Nathan Lyon accounted for one.
Josh Hazlewood, who picked up a loot from five plots in Adelaide, was left without plots.
